Skyhaven Wins Award from the NSF for a Desktop Plug-and-Play Vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide Sterilizers for COVID-19 Sterilization of Personal Protective Equipment

August 15, 2021 – Skyhaven Systems was awarded a contract from the National Science Foundation to develop a new line of desktop sterilization units that can sterilize personal protective equipment exposed to the COVID-19 virus. Global response measures to the COVID-19 pandemic have highlighted severe shortages of N95 masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE). One strategy toward alleviating these shortages is to sterilize the equipment. This has been demonstrated effectively in large trailers and room-size facilities using vaporized hydrogen peroxide (VHP) as the sterilant. However, these large sterilization units are costly well-over $1M each, require substantive facility modifications, and have strict operational requirements. An alternative approach is to provide desktop VHP sterilizers that resemble the ubiquitous steam sterilizers used throughout every medical office and hospital. Skyhaven is producing a desktop plug-and-play vaporized hydrogen peroxide sterilizer unit to decontaminate personal protective equipment for healthcare workers battling the COVID-19 pandemic. These desktop VHP sterilizers will enable rapid sterilization of masks and PPE within 30 minutes, where a $5K price tag will enable multiple units to be deployed throughout a medical facility without requiring substantive room remodeling or restricted access rooms.
